Othman Mosque

This monastery is located in the middle of the agricultural fields, several kilometres from Naga Hamadi. The large, modern complex houses many buildings with different functions. This complex is located in the heart of Girga. Its minaret was destroyed in the flood of 1940s. Unfortunately, this mosque was restored different times and it is hard identifying its original component.

The main gate is elaborately built with a triplex arch above an arabesque, a rectangular window flanked by two decorated columns. Above the door is an inscribed lintel underneath four squares with floral ornaments and another Arabic inscription on a limestone panel. A fillet surrounds the entire gate next to which there is a large niche with a triplex arch, a floral ornament and a fillet. The threshold of the main door is a reused stone of pink granite leading to a rectangular and undecorated courtyard.

The entrance door to the mosque is a simple rectangular construction but it has linear ornaments along the edges and pilaster capitals at the top of the door jambs.
